New Students

Welcome to Penn State!

The Penn State id+ Card is a vital part of life at Penn State. As a new student, it's important to learn the basics of the id+ card:

Campus Meal Plan

The 'ticket' to purchasing meals on campus through an id+ card. Convenient on-campus dining options make a great meal just a short walk away.

The Campus Meal Plan, designed for resident students, is restricted to on-campus food purchases only, however, offers the greatest discount on food items. Students living on-campus purchase a meal plan level through the Housing and Food Service Contract.

A Commuter Meal plan is also available for those living off campus.

LionCash can also be used to purchase meals on campus.

LionCash

Penn State's prepaid flex account that makes on- and off-campus purchases safe and easy, adding endless capabilities to the id+ card.

LionCash is accepted at over 300 businesses state-wide, including at all 23 Penn State Bookstore locations. Look for the 'LionCash Accepted Here' decals displayed at participating businesses or view the list of Merchants by each campus location at www.idcard.psu.edu/IDCard/LionCash/Merchants.

LionCash offers numerous benefits including:

  • Exclusive discounts at some businesses
  • Safer than carrying cash
  • Added measure of security over non-photo debit or credit cards
  • Flexibility to use the id+ card both on- and off-campus
  • Funds carry over from year to year
  • No fees to participate
  • Family and friends can easily deposit funds online 24/7/365
  • Default account for the Campus Meal Plan when funds are expended
  • Easy online account management

Stay Connected! Keep up-to-date on new LionCash merchants, special discounts, and new program features.

Manage Your Accounts

Tools are available to conveniently manage a Campus Meal Plan and/or LionCash needs online. Whether depositing funds, reviewing transaction history, or deactivating a lost or stolen id+ card, the Manage Your Accounts function safely puts the power at the student's fingertips.

The Add Funds to Another's Account option also allows family and friends to deposit funds into a specific account from the comfort of home with any Visa or MasterCard debit or credit card. Only id+ card-holders have the ability to view account details; however, transaction history can easily be emailed to anyone.

All deposits are processed as a standard purchase, not a cash advance, and are processed in real-time so funds are immediately available!

PNC Bank

Virtual Wallet Student® through PNC Bank provides interactive tools that help take the guessing game out of managing money — like easy ways to check balances online or through Text Message Banking and Alerts that can be set up to flag the student and/or parent(s) when an account balance is low.  Plus, with ATMs and branches conveniently located on or near Penn State campuses, funds and support are always available.

PNC accounts can also be linked to an id+ card1 so the card can be used to get cash with no fee at any PNC ATM.  There's no charge to link and it's easy to do online. That’s one powerful card!  For more information, visit a PNC Bank branch or pnc.com/psu.

For more detailed information on all the features of Virtual Wallet Student and banking at PNC, or to open an account, visit www.pnc.com/psu, stop by any PNC Bank branch, or call 1-877-PNC-1000 today.

Linking an id+ card to a PNC Bank account enables a student to use the id+ card in ATMs only.  The PNC Bank account is a separate account from Campus Meal Plan and LionCash accounts.  PNC Bank, NA.  Member FDIC.
