Physical id+ card

Read the following FAQs to learn more about the physical id+ card and what to do if you lose it.

What do I do if I lose my id+ card or if it has been stolen?

Lost or stolen id+ cards and/or mobile devices should be deactivated immediately through the Deactivation/Reactivate Portal. Cards may also be deactivated in person or by calling your local id+ Office during business hours.

The cardholder is responsible for all transactions and usage of their id+ card and mobile id+ card. However, a short-term or temporary card is available for inaccessible id+ cards. Temporary cards can be obtained through the local housing operations commons desk as well as the local id+ Office. A fee will be charged for each temporary card that is issued.

How much does a replacement id+ cost?

The current fee for a replacement id+ card is $20.

Additionally, please note that switching from the mobile id+ card to a physical id+ card without an approved exemption will incur a fee of $20. However, switching from the physical id+ card to a mobile id+ card is free.

What is a temporary ID card?

A temporary ID card is a short-term, non-photo credential issued when a cardholder at University Park is unable to activate a mobile id+ card or is in the process of requesting a physical id+ card. Temporary ID Cards are valid for a limited period. They are intended to provide interim access to doors and Campus Meal Plan or LionCash transactions until a permanent credential is issued or activated.

The current fee for a temporary ID card is $5. Temporary ID cards are issued at the University Park Commons Desk or your local id+ Office.

Photo Submission

Read the following FAQs to learn more about the online photo submission process and what is required to activate a Penn State id+ credential.

How can I access the online photo submission application?

Please visit the Submit Your Photo tab at the top of the home screen.

What are the photo requirements?

When you submit a photo of yourself, please consider the following requirements:

  • Color photo with no filters
  • Straight-on with the eyes looking directly at the camera (no profile or angled pictures)
  • No sunglasses, filters, animals, props, or additional people
  • No hats or other head articles that obstruct your face or hair, except for religious purposes

Additionally, please do not crop the photo. It must include the top of the shoulders to the top of the head, with some blank space above the head and the top edge of the photo.

To ensure the quality of your photo, it must be in a JPEG, PNG, or GIF format with a resolution between 500×500 and 4000×4000 pixels. All photos are subject to approval.

How will I know if my photo was accepted?

All communications regarding the status of your Penn State id+ credential will be sent to your Penn State email account. If accepted, you will receive a verification email.

If your photo is not approved, you will receive an email stating your photo was not approved and that action is required. This email will include the reason why the photo could not be accepted. You should then submit a new photo that meets all the requirements. Once the new photo is reviewed, you will receive an email verifying the status of your photo.

Can I activate the mobile id+ card if I don’t submit a photo online?

The mobile id+ card cannot be activated without a photo on file. You can have your photo taken in person at the id+ Office during normal business hours. If you are experiencing issues getting your online photo submission approved, please contact the id+ Office for assistance at [email protected]

Can I change my photo later?

Yes. You can have your photo retaken in person at the id+ Office during normal business hours. Please note that a photo replacement fee will be assessed at the time of the update. Updating photos through the online submission application is not available.

Can I get an id+ credential if I haven't submitted my photo and government-issued ID?

No. You must first upload a photo of yourself and provide a valid government-issued ID for identity verification. Once your photo is approved and your identity is confirmed, you will be able to activate your mobile id+ card through the Transact eAccounts app.

What if I don’t have a valid government-issued photo ID?

If you do not have a government-issued ID, you will be issued a temporary ID card, which allows you to access your Campus Meal Plan and LionCash accounts and assigned door access. A temporary ID card cannot be used to validate identification for testing purposes.

What do you do with my photo and government-issued photo ID?

The photo you select is not just for your Penn State id+ Credential but is used in your academic profile and on class rosters, so select the best photo to represent you as a member of the University. Your government-issued photo ID is not stored by the University and is used only for verification purposes.

  • In accordance with FERPA, only students have access to view their transactions.

How do I or someone else add funds to my account?

Anyone - even family and friends - can make a deposit from anywhere with just a click of the mouse, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Using your Access Account User ID and password, you can check your balance, view your transaction history, deactivate a lost or stolen card, or make a deposit using a credit or debit card.

LionCash is a great gift for any Penn Stater, from first-year to long-time faculty and staff. Deposits can be made 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to celebrate any occasion and may include a personalized message.

How can I access my 16-digit card number?

To access your 16-digit ID card number, follow these instructions:

  1. Log into your Transact eAccounts Portal using your Penn State User ID & Password.
  2. Complete Microsoft Multifactor Authentication (MFA). For help with MFA, contact the IT Service Desk at [email protected].
  3. Click "Card Services" in the top menu, and your 16-digit card number will be listed in the middle of your screen.

Is LionCash safe?

Your photo id+ card is more secure than non-photo debit or credit cards. It's safer than carrying cash, and your money is secure if you report your card lost or stolen. Plus, your funds are available immediately when you receive a replacement id+ card. Active accounts remain open and carry forward from semester to semester and from year to year. You can even request a refund when you graduate or leave Penn State.

Can I get discounts using LionCash?

Yes! You can receive discounts or incentives at many participating locations every time you use LionCash, including a 10 percent discount on prepared items at most on-campus Food Services locations.

Can I use LionCash instead of the Campus Meal Plan?

LionCash complements the Campus Meal Plan. Running short on dining dollars? Deposit funds into your LionCash account. When the Campus Meal Plan account is depleted, the cash registers at on-campus dining facilities will automatically deduct from your LionCash account, providing the optimal meal plan pricing. This eliminates the possibility that you'll need to forfeit remaining dining dollars at the end of spring semester.

Note: LionCash will not be accepted for the purchase of packaged alcohol or illicit drug paraphernalia. Merchants are also prohibited from accepting LionCash in exchange for cash. If you end up returning merchandise that you bought with LionCash, funds will be credited directly to your LionCash account in accordance with the merchant's return policy.

How do I request a refund?

Students who are graduating or withdrawing from the University should fill out the LionCash refund request form. Approved refund requests will only be issued via a check made payable to the cardholder and will be mailed to the permanent home address on record.

How do I address an incorrect charge, overcharge, or discrepancy with my LionCash account?

LionCash Merchants are responsible for processing returns, refunds, overcharges for goods or services purchased with LionCash. Cardholders must provide the merchant with a copy of the transaction report displaying the incorrect or duplicate transaction. Please contact the id+ Office to obtain a copy of your transaction report or if you have additional questions regarding your LionCash account.

Why does my LionCash account have a negative balance?

A negative LionCash balance can occur when a transaction is processed while a POS (Point of Sale) device is offline. When the device returns to online status, the transaction will be processed. If there are not enough funds in the account at that time, the LionCash balance will show as a negative amount.
